Description
Victory's Garden Compost Thermometer The temperature of the compost affects the effectiveness of composting. By measuring the temperature we know when to water, turn, add more material to the compost pile and when the compost is ready to use.

Effective composting requires heat, air and moisture, otherwise the rotting process will occur, which produces unpleasant odours and substances harmful to health.

HOW TO USE THE THERMOMETER: Insert the tip of the thermometer into the center of the compost pile to a depth of about half the pile height.

Measure the temperature for about 60 seconds.

It is recommended to take additional measurements in different places in the pile, at different depths to balance the temperature of the composting material.

Measure the temperature regularly during the IDEAL phase, at least every 3-4 days.

RECOMMENDED COMPOSTING TEMPERATURES:25 to 40*C - WARM

Beneficial organisms begin to break down the leftovers and organic waste. Continue adding composting materials and turning every 3-4 days. Water the pile and make sure it remains moist but not wet.

40 to 65*C - IDEAL

Now your compost is working to turn into useful humus. Fungi, microorganisms and beneficial bacteria work at an accelerated rate to break down the remains into rich compost. Turn every 3-4 days and water as needed to keep the pile moist but not wet.

65 to 80*C - HOT

If the compost temperature rises above 65*C there is a risk that the beneficial bacteria and organisms will begin to die off. Simply water and turn to bring the temperature back down to the IDEAL range. Aerating the pile by turning it effectively lowers the temperature.
